In the EGOV-CeDEM-ePart 2024 scientific committee!

I am pleased to be a member on the scientific program committee of the Smart Cities (Government, Districts, Communities & Regions) track at EGOV-CeDEM-ePart 2024, the annual IFIP 8.5 Conference. The conference will be held in early September 2024 in Belgium co-hosted by Ghent University and KU Leuven. It is organized by the IFIP 8.5 Working Group (WG8.5) and the Digital Government Society (DGS). I am honored with this recognition!

In the Group of European scientists and health professionals supporting the implementation of the Nutri-Score in Europe!

 

Nice news! I am a member of the Group of European scientists and health professionals supporting the implementation of the Nutri-Score in Europe (https://nutriscore-europe.com/).

The aim of the Group is to remind European authorities of the necessity to make mandatory in Europe the front-of-pack nutrition label Nutri-Score that is based on science, taking into account the public health challenges that Europe is facing and particularly the development of nutrition-related chronic diseases (such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, cancers, etc.). The implementation of a front-of-pack nutrition label such as Nutri-Score on a mandatory basis (to allow it to be displayed on all foods) will not solve by itself all nutrition-related problems but will contribute - as it has been scientifically demonstrated- to improve the nutritional situation and the health of the population.

Scientific arguments to support the implementation of the Nutri-Score are highlighted in the scientific report released in May 2023: "Why the EC must choose the Nutri-Score nutrition label – a public health tool based on rigorous scientific evidence – as the harmonized mandatory nutrition label for Europe” (https://nutriscore-europe.com/blog/).

Attending the basis of this Group, “unfortunately, powerful economic and political lobbies, denying the scientific evidence, use absurd and dishonest fake news to prevent the implementation of Nutri-Score in Europe.

Considering the risk of postponing the choice of a mandatory nutrition label for Europe or the adoption of a nutrition label not based on scientific evidence, it is essential that scientific and health actors mobilize to make their voices heard in the current debate.”
