Broadband and its local spreading

Which is the situation of Broadband at local sphere? Broadband Society embraces the municipal activity. It is known that broadband was born in extension of the path information does to all types of communication systems, like enterprises, media or your house. 


Broadband services were promoted by the potency of technology terminals, the support of new communication infrastructures – like fiber optic – and the initiative of administrations and industry (Redes de Banda Ancha). We analyse, in collaboration with Irina Carnicero Moreno, the Catalan case, focusing in Malgrat de Mar (a small village).

Broadband in Catalunya: the gap in rural areas


Broadband is increasing in all European countries; this is also the case of Catalunya. Broadband Society axioms are the universalizations of the service and a guaranteed broadband flow. But, is this broadband network available at the same level in urban and rural areas? We analyze it with Ariadna Coll, from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF).
One of the latest broadband news that Catalunya received was on September 19 of 2018, published by El Periódico. “Catalunya tightens the accelerator in the ultrafast internet access”. With this title El Periódico explains that Catalunya has stood out in the last years in comparison to other autonomous communities.

Broadband in local municipalities: the case of Premià de Mar



We analyze the broadband reality in Catalonia and in Maresme, focusing in Premià de Mar, in collaboration with the twins Andrea and Irina Balart. Nowadays the broadband has become a reality in Catalonia thanks to the technological advances. Many municipalities have access to different internet networks to download information, as well as to create content. In the present article we will analyze the implementation of broadband in town of Premià de Mar, belonging to Maresme county.
The use of FTTH technology in Catalonia has been increased in the last two years, specifically it has risen 8.8  percentage points regarding 2015. According to a report of 2015 from the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, 57 municipalities of Catalonia have a coverage of FTTH between 90 and 100, which which represents the reach of 1.8 million households. The FTTH or Fiber to the Home telecommunications technology consists of fiber optic cables that reach customers' homes. It is a technology that offers the known as Triple Play (Internet, television and telephony) and allows you to browse the internet at more than 2 Gbps.
